Hologic Inc., the Bedford company that purchased Marlborough-based Cytec Corp. last year, will buy Wisconsin-based Third Wave Technologies Inc. for $11.25 per share, or about $580 million.
Hologic today announced a definitive agreement for the purchase, which it said represents a 24 percent premium to Third Wave’s average trading over the last three months. The company said it expects to complete the deal in the third quarter of the year.
Hologic, a developer and manufacturer of women’s health care technologies, said Third Wave’s molecular diagnostics and DNA and RNA analysis products will broaden Hologic’s range of diagnostic product offerings and help the company grow.
