Marlborough medical technology company Hologic announced on Tuesday it has launched a public service announcement campaign with the Black Women’s Health Imperative of Georgia aimed at encouraging Black women to schedule well-woman exams with their doctors.
The campaign features Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Ciara Wilson.
Per Tuesday’s announcement, Black women are more than two times likely to die of cervical cancer compared to white women. The campaign, Cerving Confidence, hopes to inspire Black women to make sure they are having routine gynecological visits.
"As Black women, we need to commit to total self-care, and one of the ways we can do that is by taking care of our health inside and out," Ciara said in a statement. "Through the Cerving Confidence initiative, I want to level up conversations about health and address disparities by giving Black women the inspiration and information they need to get a Pap test to screen for cervical cancer."
The campaign includes a PSA video, an informational website and the hashtag #CervingConfidence, which will be used across social media. Ciara will also host a virtual summit later this year.
