Holden Landmark Corp. buys Grafton News

The Grafton News and its website are being bought by the Holden Landmark Corp., publisher of several Central Massachusetts newspapers and websites. The sale is expected to close at the end of January.

The weekly newspaper, published by Grafton News Holdings LLC, announced the sale on its website Thursday.

The statement said the Grafton News will continue to be published weekly, and its website will continue handling breaking news and updates.

Managing editor Don Clark, graphic designer Wendy Watkins and web developer Cynthia Bissell, the present owners, will remain in their positions, as will reporter Mary Romaniec. Joining them will be Richard Price, editor of thegraftonvillager.com website, which the Holden Landmark purchased last summer, the statement said.

Landmark owner Kirk A. Davis said in the statement: “I know the staff is extremely excited to join forces and preserve and build on the great tradition of the newspaper and website. A significant investment in the paper and website is planned.”

Davis is also CEO of GateHouse Media. In New England, GateHouse media parent New Media Investment Group owns the Providence Journal, MetroWest Daily News, the Milford Daily News, the Patriot Ledger and several other papers, and is purchasing the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester from Halifax Media Group.

The Grafton News, established in 1958, will join other members of the Landmark group of publications, which include The Landmark, Millbury-Sutton Chronicle, Leominster Champion, Worcester Magazine, Bay State Parent magazine, and thegraftonvillager.com website.

Barbara Brown, general manager of community publishing for Landmark, added in the statement, “The Grafton News will become our oldest publication and we plan to honor its history.”
