The historic People’s Theatre in downtown Maynard has been sold for $475,000 as the new owners plan to continue to use the renovated building as office space.
The building at 14 Nason St. opened in 1921 and closed in 1959. The facade of the building displaying the name of the theater has remained, but office tenants now occupy the building, including Kaplansky Insurance.
The buyer, Summer Street Properties LLC, will continue to operate the building as it is currently used, according to Concord real estate brokers O’Brien Commercial Properties.Â
The building was 80-percent leased at the time of the sale, according to the real estate firm.
According to the town’s website, the theater was one of three on Main Street and was the largest, seating up to 700 people.
