Heywood Hospital in Gardner has won an award for its treatment of heart attack patients.
The Leadership Award, presented by national health care alliance VHA Inc., reflected Heywood’s ranking in the top 10 percent of the nation in improving cardiac care between the third quarter of 2006 and the fourth quarter of 2007. Heywood was one of 16 VHA member hospitals, out of a total of 1,400, to receive the award.
The hospitals were ranked based on standards including prescribing aspirin to patients on arrival and discharge, use of ACE inhibitors or beta blockers, availability of smoking cessation assistance, and time until patients were treated.
