Heywood Hospital and Mount Wachusett Community College are partnering on an initiative to help childcare providers and community organizations earn a better knowledge of trauma care.
The initiative, called Handle With Care, will enable the Gardner institutions to work with 30 providers and organizations. It is being funded through a share of more than $500,000 announced Wednesday by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey’s Office.
The funding, which is aimed at helping better address the needs of children affected by trauma, is going toward eight initiatives across the state, in Boston, Chicopee, Lawrence, North Adams, Norwell and Vineyard Haven.
The Handle With Care program will include in-person training, follow-up web-based workshops, and a regional conference for 100 early childcare providers next year to educate and develop ties between trauma-informed care providers in the area.
The Attorney General's Office funded the program from proceeds of a settlement it reached last year with Care.com, which resolved allegations the company misled Massachusetts families about the comprehensiveness of its background check products.
