Heywood Hospital to begin construction on new surgical pavilion

Heywood Hospital in Gardner is set to begin site work in preparation for the construction of a new surgical pavilion.
The work will include fencing and heavy equipment on site, according to a press release Thursday from the hospital, with the first phase of work anticipated to include erosion control, drilling, and blasting.
The designs for the new pavilion will include six operating rooms capable of supporting ceiling-mounted technologies, with the goal of improving local and regional access to surgical services.
The existing operating rooms will be repurposed with primary use expected to be endoscopy and pain management, according to the hospital.
The project will be one of Heywood’s largest capital investments. The pavilion is anticipated to be complete in fall 2023.
