Heywood Hospital approved for new surgical pavilion

After receiving approval from the Massachusetts Public Health Council, Heywood Hospital in Gardner will commence construction on a new surgical pavilion, according to a Wednesday press release.

The designs for the new pavilion will include six operating rooms capable of supporting ceiling-mounted technologies.

This project is one of Heywood’s largest capital investments and seeks to provide exceptional patient experience, according to the release.

“The surgical pavilion will be located on the south side of the campus, contiguous to central sterile, MRI, xray, patient registration and food services. The existing OR suite will be repurposed with primary use expected to be endoscopy and pain management,” said Rozanna Penney, vice president of ambulatory and perioperative services, in the press release.

Groundbreaking for the new construction project is expected to begin in early 2022.
