Help wanted: Massachusetts cannabis inspector

File photo The agricultural inspector will be responsible for enforcing marijuana cultivation laws.

Although the title suggests otherwise, the marijuana inspector job posted by the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources doesn’t actually get to sample the drug.

The agricultural inspector would actually have to leave the couch to enforce cultivation rules.

The job, posted last week, calls for an inspector to enforce the laws and regulations for marijuana cultivation put into place after Massachusetts voters legalized the drug for recreational use last November. Stores will be allowed to open next summer.

According to the post, the inspector will consult and coordinate with state, local and national agencies to create rules and regulations for the cultivation for marijuana.

Candidates are asked to have at least a bachelor’s degree in agronomy, biology, chemistry, plant pathology or related fields, and must have “experience or knowledge” about marijuana and how it is regulated in other states.

Those applying are asked to have a familiarity with safety practices, procedures and testing methods, according to the post.

The proposed annual salary for the position is between $42,391 and $57,762.
