Richard Lessard, president of Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, has been chosen to chair the Higher Education Consortium of Central Massachusetts, effective July 1.

In addition to his role as chair of HECCMA, Lessard will serve as chair of the Colleges of the Fenway, according to the Wednesday press release from HECCMA.  He serves on the board of directors for the New Hampshire College & University Council and is on the executive committee of the Medical Academic and Scientific Community Organization.

MCPHS is headquartered in Boston, but has a large presence in downtown Worcester.

Lessard succeeds Quinsigamond Community College President Luis Pedraja, who completes his one-year rotating tenure on June 31.

“We look forward to further advances in HECCMA and the success of member colleges and universities under President Lessard’s experienced and visionary leadership,” said Pedraja in the press release.

HECCMA is based in Worcester and led by Executive Director Jeanine Went. It is a nonprofit consortium comprised of Anna Maria College in Paxton, Assumption University in Worcester, Clark University in Worcester, College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in North Grafton, MCPHS, Nichols College in Dudley, Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Worcester State University. Its mission is to work cooperatively to further the missions of individual member institutions.
