Heating, cooling contractor loses license, pays fines

A Rocky Hill contractor who violated numerous state laws related to occupational heating and cooling work, has lost his license and has been ordered to pay $35,500 in civil penalties and restitution, according to the Department of Consumer Protection.

The contractor, Timothy Kennedy, broke a number of state laws between December 2002 and July 2006, including failing to obtain building permits for work performed on customers' homes, installing faulty equipment, not following building codes, not responding for one year to a request by a town building official for information and other violations.

The Heating and Cooling Board ordered Kennedy to pay a civil penalty of $32,000, restitution to three former clients in the sum amount of $3,500, and revoked his S-1 unlimited heating-cooling contractor's license effective immediately. Kennedy's P-1 unlimited plumbing-piping contractor's license was suspended by the State Plumbing and Piping Work Examining Board in September 2007.
