Framingham-based HeartWare International has teamed with an Australian medical device manufacturer to explore creating a wirelessly powered ventricular device, the company announced.
Heartware has been working with Dualis MedTech GmbH, a subsidiary of AVRA Surgical of Sydney, Australia, since mid-2011 exploring how Dualis’s wireless power systems could be used in Heartware’s medical devices.
Heartware has now agreed to fund a development program to use Dualis’s power technology in a Heartware ventricular assist device, which in the past has required a cable to connect the medical devices in the heart to a power source outside the body.
