HeartWare Revenue Spikes, Losses Grow

An increase in international sales resulted in a 42-percent increase in revenue for Framingham-based HeartWare International Inc. in the second quarter.

Losses more than doubled year over year, from $10.1 million to $22.8 million, as HeartWare spent more on research and development and clinical trials.

The company is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on premarket approval for commercializing its HeartWare Ventricular Assist

For the first six months of the year, revenue is $55.4 million, up from $38.4 million over the same period last year. Losses this year are $41.6 million, up from $19.5 million.
