Patrick Muldoon, president and CEO of Leominster-based HealthAlliance Hospitals Inc., was named chairman of the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA) Board of Trustees at MHA's annual meeting June 13.
Muldoon succeeds Peter Slavin, president of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, who was appointed to the one-year post in June 2012, MHA said.
In his inaugural speech, Muldoon called for unity among the state's hospitals as the challenges of health care reform mount, and he recalled the collaboration among hospitals following the Boston Marathon bombings in April.
"We came together then as first responders and showed the country the extraordinary care that we provide, day in and day out, to our patients and their families and, just as importantly, to each other" Muldoon said. "It is my goal for us to carry that unity forward."
Muldoon has headed HealthAlliance, included campuses in Leominster and Fitchburg, since 2005, according to the hospital.
Edward Moore, president and CEO of Southbridge-based Harrington HealthCare System, was also named to a new MHA leadership role. A trustee-at-large, Moore will now serve as chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance, the MHA said.
