Worcester-based Great Brook Valley Health Center has changed its name and has recently received a $6.4 million grant to build a new facility in MetroWest.
The center changed its name to the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center. Toni McGuire, the center's CEO, said the name changed occurred with permission from the Kennedy family and was done as a tribute to the former U.S. Senator on the one-year anniversary of his death.
The organization offers a range of medical and dental services to about 20,000 patients in Worcester and MetroWest.
Thanks to the $6.4 million grant from the federal U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the organization will consolidate two store-front locations in Framingham into a single larger facility at 354 Waverly St. in Framingham.
The purchase of the building is expected to close within the next month and construction will take about a year. The total cost of the project is about $12 million.
The center has 350 employees and 13 sites, including five school-based locations and three dental offices.
