The first phase of a $12.5 million renovation project at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge has been completed.
The 113-bed hospital took the wraps off a new outpatient laboratory and upgraded patient rooms today.
The new lab was built on the hospital's lobby level and includes a pediatric area. It replaces the former lab, which was on the hospital's second floor. Previously, patient registration and laboratory work were done on two different floors.
Harrington also opened 18 new patient rooms, nine each on the second and third floors of the hospital. Four patient rooms on each floor are private. The rooms feature computers for use by nurses to access patient records and other technological improvements.
When complete, the renovation project will also include a new patient registration area in the lobby and a Women's Health Center.
