Harrington HealthCare System, which operates Harrington Hospital in Southbridge and Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard in Webster, is expanding its territory into Spencer, it announced.
Harrington said it will open a physician's office at 118 West Main St. (Route 9) by the beginning of March. The office, which will be Harrington's 16th, will be located on the second floor of Webster First Federal Credit Union's branch at that address.
It will be staffed by Dr. Leonard Waice, who comes to Harrington from Wachusett Family Practice in Holden.
Harrington said the new office will be the northernmost area it has served.
"There is a need for primary care in the Spencer area, and Harrington is happy to be able to fill that need with an experienced and popular family medicine physician," Ed Moore, Harrington's president and CEO, said in a statement.
Harrington has approximately 80 physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Of that group, 52 belong to its physician services organization.
