Southbridge-based Harrington HealthCare said it has expanded its relationship with Fallon Community Health Plan (FCHP) and is now accepting a full array of the insurer’s health plans, which Harrington CEO Edward Moore hopes will drive more patient volume to its two hospitals.
The products include Fallon Senior Plan, a Medicare product, as well as FCHP Direct Care, a limited network product that caters to employers.
“Employers in our area are signing up with Fallon and we want to make sure those employers can have their employees use us,” Moore said.
Some of Fallon’s insurance plans were exclusive to its physicians group, even after the two split in 2004 and that group became Reliant Medical Group, he added.
“The Fallon relationship was still strong in risk arrangements, even though they were separate,” he said.
But Harrington got its foot in the door with Fallon after it took over Hubbard Hospital in 2009. Some of its doctors were able to accept Fallon plans at the time, and now all can.
Moore said the change is expected to drive more patients to Harrington, though he’s not sure how many. Fallon remains the third-largest insurer at Harrington after Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare and Medicaid.
