You’ve heard of holy water, but what about holy beer?

Boston-based Harpoon Brewery is teaming with the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester to launch Harpoon x Holy Cross Hazy IPA, a new brew to serve as the official craft beer of the Holy Cross Crusaders.

The beer has an ABV of 6% and will be available at Holy Cross’ Fitton Field football stadium and in 16 oz., 4-pack cans at select retailers, bars, and restaurants throughout Greater Worcester, according to a press release issued by the 180-year old private Catholic university on Monday.

“As a Worcester native and grandson, husband, in-law, and father of Holy Cross Alums I could not be more excited about this collaboration,” Dan Kenary, Harpoon CEO and co-founder, said in the press release. “We worked hard to come up with a great-tasting beer to celebrate both on campus and when bringing the spirit of Mt. St. James on the road.”

Holy Cross supporters will get their first taste of the new brew during the school’s annual Kickoff Event held on Sept. 5.

This beer isn’t the first craft brew from Central Massachusetts with ties to the Catholic Church; Spencer Brewery, a business founded by the Trappist monks of St. Joseph's Abbey in 2014 operated until May 2022 before shuttering due to changes in the craft beer market.
