Worcester-based Hanover Insurance plans to make David B. Greenfield the company's CFO next year.

He recently joined Hanover as executive vice president and senior finance officer, but will step into the CFO role in March 2011.
Greenfield will take over for Steven J. Bensinger, who will be stepping down to return to the New York area.
Hanover also announced that John J. Brennan was elected to its board of directors.
Brennan is chairman emeritus and senior advisor of The Vanguard Group Inc. in Pennsylvania. He served in the roles of president, CEO and chairman at Vanguard from 1989 to 2009. He is on the board of governors for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and chairman of the Financial Accounting Foundation's board of trustees.
