Hallmark Health System, a major health care provider in communities north of Boston, has ended its exclusivity agreement with Partners HealthCare and is broadening its search for a tertiary partner.
Under a Hallmark Health Board of Trustees vote Thursday, Partners will not be excluded and its negotiated managed care contracts with physicians will remain in effect, according to a memo from Hallmark President and CEO Alan Macdonald.
"We will open ourselves for conversations with other health care providers, because we choose to no longer wait on the uncertainty of an unknown regulatory response to delay the overall affiliation process," Macdonald wrote. "Our goal in achieving an affiliation with a larger health provider organization is to help us meet the future and changing health care needs of our communities. Specifically, we seek greater financial and clinical depth to successfully engage in population health management; and to expand our resources to continue providing the highest quality health care services for generations to come." He continued, "We know amid a changing regulatory landscape we must take a new look at the best ways to achieve our goals. We are fortunate to work in proximity of the most reputable providers of health care in the country. There are many opportunities for us to explore."
Kaufman Hall and Associates is assisting Hallmark, and Macdonald told Hallmark employees and physicians in his memo that Hallmark would keep them informed "of each step in the process as it happens."
