GWCF grants $2.2M to aid 120 nonprofit operations

The Greater Worcester Community Foundation in Worcester has granted $2.2 million total to 120 local nonprofit organizations to aid in operations and fund new projects.
The three types of grants, ranging from $5,000 to $90,000 each, offered were general operating support grants, project grants, and nonprofit effectiveness grants, designed to support new perspectives on routine operations, according to a Wednesday press release from GWCF
The foundation received the most applicants in its history this year and provided funding to more than half. The grants came from GWCF discretionary funds donors have established with the foundation.
“For many organizations that applied for and were awarded grants in 2022, one common theme we saw throughout was a willingness to embrace the change and adapt to the new normal following the pandemic,” Tim Johnstone, interim president and CEO of GWCF said in the press release.
Among the top recipients of the funding are:
- Pernet Family Health Service in Worcester received $90,000 for operating support, its parent support program, its family outings and activities program, and a nonprofit effectiveness grant supporting electronic record keeping for nursing.
- Southeast Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts of Worcester received $90,000 for operating support, mental wellness programs, and entrepreneurship and small business programs.
- Edward Street Child Services of Worcester received $75,000 for operating support and to fund their Master Teacher Consultation Program.
- Living in Freedom Together, Inc. in Worcester received $70,000 for operating support and its Building Real Action for Viable Employment program.
- Abby’s House of Worcester received $50,000 for operating support.
- The Latino Education Institute, part of Worcester State University, received $50,000 for operating support.
- African Community Education of Worcester received $50,000 for operating support.
- Main South Community Development Corp. in Worcester received $50,000 for operating support.
- NewVue Communities in Fitchburg received $50,000 for operating support and its Housing Stability & Equity program.

Established in 1975, GWCF has awarded more than $123 million to cultural educational, human service, and civic organizations. Its charitable endowment totals $153 million in more than 600 named funds, according to the press release.
