GWCF awards $332K for mental health initiatives

The Greater Worcester Community Foundation has given $332,000 this summer in its annual Fairlawn Foundation Fund to benefit mental health initiatives.

The latest awards, announced Monday, add to what is nearly $7 million since the fund's 1992 inception benefiting agencies' capital needs, professional and paraprofessional staffing needs and service demands.
This year's recipients are:

— Anna Maria College, Paxton: $37,500 for a three-year project to improve the availability of mental health services by developing a pipeline of mental health practitioners and connecting them to employers in Worcester.

— Boys & Girls Club of Worcester: $20,000 to support the hiring of a behavioral health specialist to better deliver wrap-around support for youth and families.

— HOPE Coalition, Worcester: $75,000 to evaluate outcomes of Worcester ACTs (Addresses Childhood Trauma), a partnership that, now in its third year, provides early childhood trauma response for families with young children who are exposed to violence. 

— Open Sky Community Services, Worcester: $75,000 to support the second year of a collaborative partnership aiming to address hiring challenges faced by the region’s mental health and human service organizations.

— The CASA Project, Worcester: $80,000 in support of a collaborative program to address systemic issues and barriers to mental health services for children in foster care.

— Medical School, Worcester: $40,000 for its Sibling Support Program, a pilot project to support families, especially siblings, of youth with mental illness through wrap-around services and education.
