Grifols, a Barcelona-based healthcare company, announced on Tuesday it is opening a plasma donation center at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester.
Nationally, Worcester mark’s Grifols’ 300th outpost. The Spanish company plans to operate 370 plasma centers across the United States and Europe by the end of the year.
“This center is an important step forward in Grifols’ efforts to increase plasma collection in the greater New England area, as well as continue to expand awareness of the importance of plasma donations,” said Tony Procaccio, chief operating officer, at Grifols Biomat USA, the Grifols subsidiary which will operate at the Worcester location.
A private ribbon cutting for the facility included state Sen. Michael Moore (D-Grafton), Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty, and representatives from the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce.
