Griffin Land to finally pay migrant workers

After being sued by the U.S. Dept. of Labor in April, New York-based Griffin Land & Nurseries has agreed to pay 27 seasonal laborers $39,414 in wages and interest for work done at Imperial Nurseries, a wholesaler of plants and shrubs in Granby. Griffin will also pay a $3,900 fine as part of the settlement. DOL alleged that Imperial had failed to adhere to state and federal minimum wage guidelines. In July, Griffin reported second quarter profits of $6 million after selling 72 acres in Windsor to The Hartford Insurance Co.
