Grid District's Beer Garden, Franklin Street Fare to close for winter

With coronavirus cases rising in Worcester and across the state, two restaurants in downtown Worcester's Grid District announced Friday they'll close for the winter.

The Worcester Beer Garden will close on Nov. 1, and Franklin Street Fare a day earlier. Franklin Street Fare, which replaced Stix Noodle Bar, opened in August.

Those two temporary closures will join those of two other Grid District restaurants: Revolution Pie + Pint and Craft Table & Bar, which both shuttered in the spring. A coffee shop, Brew on the Grid, will remain open.

"We cannot ignore the reality of spiking COVID numbers. We want to keep our staff and our community safe," Gary Benacquista, Grid Hospitality Group's director of operations, said in a statement. "We are seeing the same math as everyone else, and it does not make economic sense to remain open until the situation improves."

Other notable downtown Worcester restaurants have closed indefinitely, including deadhorse hill and Armsby Abbey. Across Worcester Common from the Grid District, Shangri-La has also closed permanently.
