After steady declines during the first and second quarters, venture capital spending within the green sector is almost back up to pre-recession levels, according to a report by Cambridge-based Greentech Media.
During the third quarter, there were 112 green tech deals closed totaling $1.9 billion, according to Greentech, an online media and market research firm. That’s up from $1.2 billion invested during the second quarter and $836 million in the first quarter.
Solar power continued to be the “green” leader, with 29 deals totaling more than $575 million. Other green industries attracting dollars included biofuels, biomass and gasification-a method of producing energy from a variety of organic materials.
