The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in Greater Worcester jumped 7 cents since one week ago, after the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) announced on April 2 it would cut production of oil by 1.16 million barrels per day.

The average price for a gallon of gas in the Worcester metro area is $3.31, compared with $3.35 statewide, according to data from the travel association AAA.

“The oil market has had some time to digest the OPEC news and speculate about the reason. This has led to the price of oil stabilizing for now,” Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast vice president of public and government affairs, said in a Monday press release. "The cost of oil accounts for more than 50% of what we pay at the pump, so drivers may not catch a break at the pump any time soon."

Prices across Massachusetts are still considerably lower than the national average of $3.61.
