Great Wolf Lodge, a hotel and water park in Fitchburg, told the state in July it was laying off 700 workers, the largest mass layoff to hit Central Massachusetts during the coronavirus pandemic.
Great Wolf Lodge has closed until at least Nov. 25, the earliest date that it's now accepting reservations. The resort said Friday it can't yet determine a reopening date until it has more clarity from public officials for when a business of its type will be allowed to operate.
"Unfortunately, while the resort is closed we have made the difficult decision to furlough a number of our employees," spokesman Jason Lasecki said. "We eagerly look forward to welcoming them back once we’re allowed to reopen."

The Great Wolf layoffs are part of a series of job losses across industries that have added up as the pandemic and a related recession cripple the state's employment.
In the most recent layoff notification, the parent company of Lord & Taylor notified the state it will lay off 27 workers at the department store's Natick Mall location effective Dec. 1. Lord & Taylor is one of two anchor tenants at the Natick Mall slated to close, along with Neiman Marcus, which hasn't notified the state of when and how many layoffs it plans to make once it closes. The mall's Dave & Buster's location has also disclosed 110 layoffs, though it reopened on Sept. 25.
The notice filed Oct. 1 by Le Tote, Lord & Taylor's parent company, adds to a growing list of Central Massachusetts companies that have filed job-loss disclosures with the MassHire Department of Career Services, which can include temporary furloughs.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining (WARN) Act requires employers to notify the state of relatively large-scale layoffs to help MassHire find employees new work or workforce training.
