Gov. Seeks Disaster Relief

Gov. Deval Patrick is calling on the president to declare a “major disaster” designation for parts of Central and Western Massachusetts after the June 1 tornadoes and severe thunderstorms that hit several communities.

The declaration would reimburse local communities, nonprofits and state agencies for storm-related infrastructure damages, debris removal and emergency response costs. It would also offer individual assistance to help business owners and individuals rebuild.

Patrick’s request covers all of Hampden County and the towns of Southbridge and Sturbridge within Worcester County.
