After its first week of adult-use cannabis sales in Worcester, Good Chemistry is no longer requiring those customers to make appointments in order to purchase recreational marijuana.
The change comes after the company and Worcester Licence Commission agreed to scale back some safeguards meant to control traffic, crowds and congestion, but the company’s first week of sales went smoothly, company representatives and city officials said at Thursday’s License Commission meeting.
In addition to opening the store up to the general public, two police detail paid for by the company will remain stationed in the area until June 1, and private security will be reduced from four to two on most days.
In a statement, the company said the store has been serving 150 to 200 customers a day since opening on May 1.
Founder and CEO Matthew Huron said working closely with the city helped lead to the smooth rollout.
“The protocols put in place for the initial opening allowed us to serve a manageable number of customers and have the steady, successful launch that we envisioned,” Huron said. “We’re excited to continue to serve both adult-use customers and medical patients in Worcester and look forward to continuing to grow our relationship with the community.”
The online reservation system will continue to be operational for customer convenience, and the store will direct customers to the service if the store becomes too busy.
Parking for recreational customers will continue to be provided at 91 Washington St. Only medical marijuana cardholders can park in a small lot on Harrison Street.
