Globe To Enlist Student Journalists

The Boston Globe, which along with the Worcester Telegram & Gazette is owned by the New York Times Co., has struck a deal with two Boston colleges to use students as reporters for the paper's "Your Town" websites.

Students from Northeastern University and Emerson College will be enlisted to report and write stories for the hyper-local sites, which currently cover 50 communities throughout the state, including Framingham and Natick.

The programs at both colleges will be overseen by journalism professors in cooperation with Globe editors.

Bob Powers, vice president of marketing and communications for the Globe, said the students will not be paid for their work on the sites, but they will get college credit.
