Girls Inc. of Worcester

Responding to the Crisis

Girls Inc. of Worcester remains dedicated to serving girls across Central Massachusetts. Girls are engaged virtually for programming to maintain a sense of community, connection, and to encourage girls to stay Strong, Smart, and Bold through the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have launched a new GirlPad Grab & Go initiative to distribute period products for girls throughout COVID-19. When school is out of session, girls are not able to access these necessary hygiene items from school nurses, and with the economic strains of high unemployment rates, families are forced to choose between food and period products. For girls, basic needs go beyond toilet paper–and Girls Inc. of Worcester is meeting those needs.

Future Goals

1. Support the needs of our girls and their families through the COVID-19 pandemic by continuing to offer programs, virtually and in-person once it is safe to do so. We know many will face economic consequences of these trying times, and we aim to continue to serve our girls regardless of need.

2. Equip girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers to grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Girls will build confidence and embrace positive decision-making to take charge of their health and well-being, and achieve academic, personal, and career goals.

3. Complete the final stages of capital improvement to support future growth, including the launch of the Saint-Gobain Technology Center to address digital divides, enhance the academic success of our girls, narrow the gap of learning loss, and allow for staff to incorporate modern methodologies to implement programs.

4. Create an atmosphere of cultural competency by strengthening diversity among staff and Board of Directors, and supporting a positive learning and sharing environment for staff and volunteers.

5. Advocate for girls and lead the community towards increased awareness and action on the issues our girls face.

6. Maintain financial sustainability and increase resources to support our growth plan and community partnerships.
