The Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts (GSCWM) said it will divest of three of its seven outdoor facilities while leaving open the possibility of expanding its four remaining properties in the future.
The five-year property plan was adopted at a November meeting of the local Girl Scouts board of directors, according to a statement. The organization will divest of Camp Neyati in Leicester, Camp Kinnebrook in Chester and Camp Marion White in Richmond.
The remaining outdoor facilities in the Girl Scouts’ Central and Western Massachusetts jurisdiction “have capacity for increased use and physical expansion to meet future needs,” the statement said, although those plans were not discussed in detail.
The five-year plan follows four years of work collecting and analyzing data on the physical condition, capacity, revenue and expense, as well as the feasibility of expansion of each site, the Girl Scouts said.
“Camping and other outdoor experiences have always been and will always be an integral part of Girl Scouting. (The board) is taking action now to ensure the long-term viability of a network of safe and well-maintained properties that support the delivery of high-quality outdoor program activities for girls throughout our jurisdiction,” said Suzanne Smiley, chief operation officer of the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts.
The Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts serves nearly 11,000 girls in 186 across Central and Western Massachusetts.
