The Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts have unrolled online cookie purchasing options -- along with a new brownie and caramel cookie -- as part of a national rollout to grow its annual fundraising activity, the main source of the nonprofit's income.
The Girl Scouts of the USA are partnering with California-based food delivery app DoorDash to allow consumers to purchase cookies for delivery or pickup at a nearby booth, according to a Wednesday press release from the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts.
The initiative is new this year and aims to expand the reach of Girl Scout cookie sales, according to the scouts. The proceeds of sales from delivery all remain local, as Girl Scouts in the region track and fulfill orders and manage inventory using DoorDash.
The collaboration also aids in keeping cookie sales in line with COVID-19 guidelines. Girl Scouts will continue running outdoor cookie booths, which customers can locate by inputting their zip code on the Girl Scouts’ website.
A new brownie and caramel cookie, Adventurefuls, is launching with the 2022 cookie season, which started Jan. 14.
Orders through the DoorDash app or online are open Fridays through Sundays until March 13. Along with using the DoorDash app, consumers can text “Cookies” to 59618 to order.
Proceeds from cookie sales go to scouts’ yearly activities. For the Central and Western Massachusetts council, cookie sales account for about 60% of its annual revenue.
