Germany-based life sciences company Eppendorf has agreed to donate equipment to Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Biomanufacturing Education and Training Center (BETC).
Under the thee-year agreement signed Jan. 9, Eppendorf will supply a bioreactor, centrifuge, incubator and other equipment for use in the BETC’s small-scale laboratory. In exchange, BETC staff will assist Eppendorf with curriculum development and provide some Eppendorf customers with discounted tuition for BETC programs, according to a statement from WPI.
“This new partnership is an important addition to the BETC that will enhance our ability to provide the highest quality and most relevant training experiences for our students,” said Kamal Rashid, BETC director.
The BETC opened in Gateway Park in May 2013 and offers large- and small-scale bioprocessing areas for both microbial fermentation and mammalian cell culture production.
