German discount supermarket chain ALDI is growing its presence in Central Massachusetts with the opening of a new store in Acton.
Known for its no-frills interiors, coin-operated shopping carts, and low prices, ALDI will be opening its sixth Central Massachusetts location at 100 Powdermill Road, site of the Powder Mill Plaza. The company secured a 10-year lease for the 21,383-square-foot retail store on Sept. 30, according to real estate data firm CoStar.
ALDI did not immediately respond to comment, and the company has not announced an opening date for the store. The move-in date for the lease is listed as Dec. 29, making the opening likely sometime in 2026.
ALDI announced in February a plan to open more than 225 new stores in the United States as the next stage of a five-year growth strategy, according to a company press release. The Acton store will join existing Central Massachusetts locations in Worcester, Gardner, Leominster, Milford, and Natick, part of over 2,400+ locations nationwide.
The site was formerly occupied by Stop & Shop, according to The Acton Exchange, which first reported on the new store in September after construction permits were issued.
Powder Mill Plaza is owned by Medipower, a Cyprus-based real estate firm focused on real estate plazas in the United States, Canada, and Bulgaria, according to its website.
Other tenants at the plaza include Acton Liquors, Anytime Fitness, Dunkin’, and Walgreens, according to CoStar. The plaza was built in 1985 and renovated in 1996. It contains 77,626 square feet of retail space and 400 parking spaces.
Arlene Gray and Kristi Pennington of Pennsylvania-based Paramount Realty Services served as representatives for the lease transaction.
