Georgetown: Health Care Jobs Will Be Fastest Growing In Most States

Health care will add jobs faster than any other industry in 46 states, according to a study from Georgetown University, which also found that the Northeast will be particularly robust.

In Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island and New York, health care jobs will represent 15 percent or more of jobs by 2020, according to the study from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.

Massachusetts is already above 15-percent health care employment, according to the latest statistics from the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOWLD). In May, there was a seasonally adjusted 515,000 people working in the health care and social assistance labor category, or 15.9 percent out of a total workforce of 3.24 million. The agency projects that hospitals will be the biggest source of new jobs through 2016.
