Cambridge-based Genzyme Corp., which has major operations in Central Massachusetts, has recruited an executive from Eli Lilly & Co. to oversee its manufacturing operations.
Scott Canute joins Genzyme as president of global manufacturing and corporate operations. He served as president of global manufacturing operations at Eli Lily, directing all manufacturing and supply chain activities for the company.
This is Genzyme’s second recent executive appointment in the area of manufacturing and quality. The drugmaker ran into trouble last year when a virus was detected at its Allston facility by federal inspectors. The plant, which produces two of Genzyme’s leading drugs, Cerezyme and Febrazyme, had to be shut down temporarily because of the contamination.
