Genzyme CEO To Be FSU Speaker

Henri Termeer, chairman and CEO of Genzyme Corp., will be the undergraduate commencement speaker at Framingham State University this year.

The biotechnology company, which is in the process of being acquired by Sanofi-Aventis SA of France, is based in Cambridge but has much of its operations in the MetroWest area.

Termeer became president of Genzyme in 1983, just two years after its founding, and led its growth into one of the world’s biggest biotech companies.

Abdule Momen, the Bangladeshi ambassador to the United Nations and a Framingham State professor, will deliver the graduate commencement speech.

The university will also give an honorary doctor of laws degree to David B. Perini, the retired commissioner of the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and former CEO of Perini Corp. construction and development firm. It will also honor Framingham Town Manager Julian Suso with the Citizen Laureate Award, given to a community supporter of FSU.
