Westboro’s Gene-IT will help the Public Intellectual Property Resource for Agriculture (PIPRA) search for patents on certain agriculture biotechnology used in research at public institutions.
Gene-IT is providing its GenomeQuest service to PIPRA so the group can share and leverage patented gene sequences and other information and technology relevant to agricultural research.
GenomeQuest is a web-based program that finds and analyzes gene sequence data from dozens of scientific and patent sources.
Now, researchers looking for access to agricultural intellectual property may have it, according to Cecilia Chi-Ham, director of biotechnology resources at PIPRA. That intellectual property is necessary “for the creation and distribution of improved crops,” she said.
