After being nearly flat over the past two weeks, Worcester metro gas prices came out of Memorial Day weekend up nearly 9 cents per gallon over the previous week.
The average price of a gallon of regular gas in the Greater Worcester area rose to $3.50, as of Tuesday, according to data from the travel association AAA.
Worcester County remains in the middle of prices in the state with Middlesex, Norfolk, and Suffolk counties, as well as the Cape and the islands recording higher prices. Statewide, the average is up 8 cents since the previous week at $3.52.
Massachusetts and Rhode Island are only a penny apart, while Connecticut gas prices have been shooting up to $3.65 as of Tuesday.
AAA forecasted Memorial Day road trips would be up 6% over last year, with more than 37 million Americans driving to their destinations, according to a Tuesday press release from AAA.
“The rise in demand for oil and gasoline is helping to push pump prices higher for now,” Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast vice president of public and government affairs, said in a Tuesday press release.
