Gas prices jump 5 cents in Mass.

The average per gallon price of regular unleaded gasoline in Massachusetts is up 5 cents in the last week, coming in at $2.44 per gallon, the travel association AAA Northeast announced on Monday.

That price is 19 cents higher than a month ago, when the average price per gallon was $2.25, and seven cents cheaper than Feb. 8, 2020.

AAA reports crude oil increased last week after OPEC opted to keep its production cuts unchanged. Crude oil prices have not been this high since January 2020, according to AAA.

“Consumers can expect to continue paying more to fill up this month, potentially up to 10 cents more a gallon, depending on how high crude goes,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast director of public and government affairs. “If demand grows, that will further fuel pump price increases.”

The national average price per gallon of gas is $2.46, four cents higher than a week ago.
