Gas prices started the third week in August down one cent from last week at an average of $2.04 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline, according to AAA Northeast.
The auto club reported that Massachusetts gas prices surveyed on Aug. 15 were eight cents below the national average and 44 cents lower than this time last year.
“For travelers who are planning an August vacation or a last-gasp- of-summer day trip, gas prices inching ever closer to the two dollar mark are a gift!” said Mary Maguire, director of public and legislative affairs for AAA Northeast, in a statement.
AAA found per-gallon costs ranging from a $1.89 to $2.49. Diesel fuel priced out at $2.44 per gallon on average.
