Gas prices fall 2 cents, but still remain high

Gasoline prices are falling as oil refineries and distributors recover after hurricanes forced the oil industry to halt operations in late August and early September.

According to AAA, gas prices in Massachusetts are down 2 cents from last week, with regular unleaded averaging $2.60.

The company on Monday said the $2.60 price was 5 cents above the national average and 50 cents above the state’s average price of $2.10 last year.

On Sept. 5, AAA said the average price of gas in the state was $2.70, an average of 44 cents more than the week prior. That was the highest price recorded locally in two years.
