BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. of Natick said its October sales hit $738.8 million, an 11.6 percent increase over the same month last year, on gasoline profits that "greatly exceeded" expectations.
The company's same-store sales increased 10.2 percent, 3.6 percent of which the company attributed directly to the sale of gasoline. Last October, the company's same-store sales increased by 4.8 percent with a 1.7 percent contribution from gasoline sales.
For the third quarter, BJ's sales increased by 13.4 percent to $2.4 billion and same store sales increased by 11.9 percent with a 5.3 percent contribution from gasoline sales.
In the same quarter last year, the company's same-store sales increased 3.4 percent and included a negative impact of 0.2 percent on the sale of gasoline.
The company said its food departments were the strongest compared to last year while cigarettes, electronics and jewelry were weakest.
