Gardner doctor’s license suspended

The license of Gardner-area doctor Robert B Shepherd, D.O. was suspended by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine in an emergency meeting.

The doctor’s license was suspended during that meeting on Tuesday, according to a release from the organization. The board found he “poses an immediate and serious threat to the public health, safety and welfare.” The board alleged that he prescribed medication to two people for illegitimate purposes.

Shepherd, who is board certified in family medicine, has been licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts since 1990. According to the Telegram & Gazette, he was affiliated with Heywood Hospital in Gardner, Athol Hospital and Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington.

Shepherd has the right to a hearing at the Division of Administrative Law Appeals within seven days.
