The City of Gardner received a $4.1-million grant from the state’s MassWorks program to revitalize its Main Street, according to a Monday press release from Mayor Michael Nicholson.
The funding will go toward the city’s $10-million plan to revitalize its downtown. It will cover the cost of constructing an apartment complex, a new event plaza, and parking areas, per the release.
The apartment complex will include 60,000 square feet and 56 units of workforce housing in partnership with EA Fish Development LLC, a developer based in Wellesley Hills, which constructed another housing project on Pine Street. The building is expected to bring in $55,000 in annual tax revenue.
Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration has allotted nearly $67 million in MassWorks awards to support infrastructure and revitalization projects across the state.
