Gardner-based Colonial Co-operative Bank has appointed a new president who has spent nearly two years at the institution in three roles.
Joseph D. Guercio previously held positions of interim president, senior vice president and chief loan officer at Colonial.
Prior to coming to Colonial, he spent nearly 20 years as senior vice president and senior loan officer at Clinton Savings Bank.
Guercio's financial industry specialties include residential and retail lending, commercial lending, technology, strategic planning, team building and compliance.
Guercio has also been an investigative specialist for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and air intelligence specialist in the U.S. Air Force. The Sterling resident earned a bachelor's degree in science at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and graduated from The New England School for Financial Studies at Babson College.
"Colonial is the perfect fit at this time of my life and career. It's a community-oriented bank with history, plenty of truly great customers and lots of loyalty. I'm looking forward to guiding the bank to thrive in today's evolving financial world without abandoning Colonial's personal touch," Guercio said in a statement.
Colonial has branches in Gardner and Winchendon and, according to the FDIC, had $69.7 million in assets as of March 31.
