Marlborough’s first cannabis dispensary, Garden Remedies, will open for recreational sales Sunday after receiving state approval to open.
The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission said Wednesday it gave the company, which grows and produces cannabis products in Fitchburg, approval to open in three days.
The Marlborough location will be the second adult-use cannabis store for Garden Remedies after opening its Newton location to the new market late last month.
According to the company’s website, the Marlborough location at 416 Boston Post Road East is not yet open for medical sales. Unlike many other dispensaries’ initial openings, Garden Remedies is not requiring appointments to curb traffic or crowd size.
The company bills itself as the only cannabis firm founded and led by a woman physician, Karen Munkacy.
According to the Cannabis Control Commission, Garden Remedies is the only company to have applied to do business in Marlborough.
Also allowed into the adult-use market Wednesday is Milford-based Sira Naturals, gaining approval to begin cultivating, manufacturing and transporting activities.
It appears, at least at first, the company’s adult-use operations will be limited to wholesale sales, as the company has yet to apply for entry into the recreational market for its three dispensaries in Cambridge, Somerville or Needham.
